Super Techno Disco Funk//

Apr, 20, 2012

Polish superbabe, Zuzanna, is all techo freaky in this awesome futuristic shoot by photog Felix Lammers. Her platinum blond, choppy bob is one of my favorite looks and its pairs so well with some of this spring’s favorite pastel hues. Violet lips are hard to pull off, but she makes it look easy. I also dig her peach nails which would look horrible on my pink, pale hands.  This shoot is hyper studio style and not my personal aesthetic, but I love it. It’s glossy and slick with hard elements to the styling, but it still all manages to look somewhat soft. I like how stylist Marko Matysik plays with that juxtaposition. I also like to use the word juxtaposition.

Now, I’m about to go rogue. It’s so nice outside, and I can’t wait for my job interview today. Fingers crossed!

#Coachella is Bulletproof Nothing to Lose

Apr, 18, 2012

As promised, here are some of my #instagrams from the weekends festivities. Pardon the cheesy title, but I couldn’t help myself. Guetta and Sia’s Titanium has been in my head non-stop since I got back and I can’t stop dancing. So… the festival. Coachella is so well-planned and fabulous and everyone I wanted to see I managed to see, with the exception of Azealia Banks. M83, Santigold, Radiohead, Tuneyards, FLO!, SNOOP!!! and David Guetta were some of my favorites. The weather was a bit unexpected, and I definitely had to make a 911 run to Super Target to stock up on layers, but as a Bay Area girl, the chilly nights suited me just fine. I overheard many a scantily clad lady lament the cold weather, but it just forced people to be on their sartorial toes. I didn’t see any celebs (except for Lonely Boy and his boo, Zooey, at the Ace Hotel pool..wah wah), but they all just hang out at pool parties anyways, right? I think the real music (party) lovers have to be more practical with their style. At least I know I value comfort and no blisters at concerts over looking fresh to death. So, when do tickets go on sale for 2013?

Keira Knightley for Interview Magazine

Apr, 17, 2012

I love Keira Knightley in this editorial for Interview Magazine’s April edition. There is some serious leather, but it’s not S&M. Her hair is going on and her bold sultry makeup is perfect. Not to mention that she has those full, well-groomed eyebrows that frame her naturally beautiful face. I like to see women who are normally styled to be demure and girly in more edgy, rocker inspired shoots.

I just got back from Coachella, so I have to say that I’m not firing on all cylinders (it took me 5 minutes to spell cylinders) quite yet, but I will be posting some festival Instagrams soon! It was a blast, fyi, and if you have the chance, GO!

Los Angeles via Instagram

Apr, 11, 2012

Even though #instagram has sold its soul to the book of face, here are some fun ones from my trip down south. They are particularly wonderful to me now that it’s awful and raining in the bay. Luckily, I’m in the midst of packing for Coachella, and I couldn’t be more excited for awesome music and sunshine. Forecast says 30% chance of rain on Friday, but I say hell no to that.

As far as wardrobe goes, aside from my neon pink Vans and cut off shorts, I am at a loss. It seems entirely overwhelming and intimidating. Thank god I have one, bestfriendShiloh, coming for back up.

Mood// To Live and Die in LA

Apr, 5, 2012

I’m in Los Angeles right now. Yes, that’s correct. This Bay Area girl has flown the coop and migrated south for a brief reprieve. I needed some sunshine, sand and a chance to hit the refresh button. There is something intoxicating about the 1950s retro beach feel to the homes and the funky mish-mash of the shops along the beach. Is there smog? Yeah, so what. I felt like I was practically skipping down the sidewalk in Venice I was so excited to soak up some rays. But, while I was skipping I noticed a glaring difference between the inhabitants here and my breathern up North. I have to hand it to the Angelenos, they do California cool better than anyone else in the Golden State, and as they should. They invented it.

MAWI London

Apr, 2, 2012

Wow. This is the perfect mix of the seasons hip trendy things: hard metals, neon color palette with a splash of rose gold for good measure. My favorite store in San Francisco carries MAWI and while it’s out of my price range, for real, I can still dare to dream. If you’re more fortunate than I in the pocket book, then do visit Eden and Eden when you have a chance.  Not only is the shop eclectically wonderful, but, Rachel, the owner, has some of the most amazing taste I’ve ever seen. She’s British, so she has a one up on everyone else, and her store is the perfect  mix of quirky home items, vintage clothing and baubles. Her shop changes often and her cool, younger (American) brother is always playing excellent tunes. He’s in a rock band himself, so the scene is hip and inviting. I used to go in so often that I was once asked to stay for tea. Don’t mind if I do… I do mind if I don’t.

I can’t say enough about Eden and Eden …and these MAWI gems. Get there if you’re in the right area code.

Well, cheers!

Mood// Thinking of Palm Springs

Mar, 23, 2012

The sun is shining so I’m thinking of Palm Springs. Take a dip, acquire some freckles, get a sunburn.

Sun-kissed Daphne Groeneveld for i-D Magazine

Mar, 23, 2012

How can you not love this girl?

Sun-kissed make-up, tousled, wispy hair and crazy-layering does the Royalty Issue well. Love.

Fishnet details over hats, and structured jackets over softer silk elements is royalty with a street style edge. Looks 9 and 10 from above are my favorites. However, I am always and forever will be a sucker for anything silk with polka dots and/or graphic, paisley-esque prints.  Sarah Richardson did the styling and model-of-the-moment, Daphne, does a confused, befuddled, frown-y face in the most adorable way possible. Her response to the question, “What would you do if you were Queen for a day?” …. “I’d throw a party!” is just so charming and exactly what a teenager should say.  And while I’m at it, I’m going to remember to ALWAYS curtsy before thinking. If not literally, then figuratively. Whew.

Tim Walker and Kate Moss for Vogue

Mar, 21, 2012

Tim Walker is one of my most beloved fashion photographers. Here is why.

Mr. Walker knows that fashion and fantasy go hand in hand. If you look through his compilation of work, you see a child’s imagination with a grown man’s keen eye for photography and beautiful things. His work is surreal, lovely, whimsical, and sometimes strange or creepy.  The first photo I remember seeing, which made me fall in love, was this one below. I wanted to be dressed up on that beach, playing around the giant swan in the dusk.

Mood// It’s Thursday and it’s Raining in San Francisco

Mar, 15, 2012

Rainy weather in San Francisco makes the city’s seashell pastel color palette really come out. All of the different shades of mauve, grey, white and blue look pretty amazing against a cloudy sky. If the city was a mood board today, this is what it would be. Of course, Prada 2006 with cat by Steven Meisel is always helpful to lift one’s mood.
